Work

Whilst learning the world of web design, I've been working on a few projects, to improve my understanding and efficiency of code, including this website, a Chalet booking website and travel blogs.

I always have responsive design at the forefront and with 61% of users' digital time spent on mobile phones, it is now crucial to make pages mobile-orientated.

Employment

From supervising restaurants aged 20, to Marketing Manager one year later. I've set up campaigns that are still in use today, written marketing plans for owners and increased newsletter recipients by 4000 in just one quarter. I've always progressed quickly, been able to easily adapt to working environments and exceed targets.

  • Web Designer

    2017 - Present

    Freelance

Initially self-taught, I have developed my skills as a website designer through online courses. Whilst learning, I have applied my skills to build responsive websites for a range of businesses. With certificates in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and User Experience I have quickly learnt to be forward-thinking and design-conscious. I recognise the importance of mobile-first sites and a simplistic, on-brand design.

Jointly responsible for the success of customers' skiing holidays through attention to detail and meeting guests' demands. I managed the social media platforms of two award-winning restaurants, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and newsletters, as well as creating cross-marketing campaigns with local businesses. In just a three month period, I increased our followers/likes by: Facebook: 35%; Twitter: 14%; Instagram: 133% and our engagement rate by at least 7.7% across all platforms – exceeding initial targets.

  • Restaurant Supervisor

    Oct 2012 - May 2016

Managing a front of house team of six, communicating closely with the kitchen team and overseeing up to 120 guests in an evening. I am experienced in cashing up, sales reports, maintaining stock levels and organising private functions. I co-designed the cocktail menu, organised staff training and rotas and am a meticulous menu proofreader.

Skills

Throughout both my professional career and education, I have gained valuable skills. I consider myself sociable, patient and a fast-learner. I am also a meticulous proof-reader of menus, newsletters, press releases and marketing reports.

Education

My education has shaped the field of work I'm in. I learned the power of the English language at college, combined this with my artistic side and rounded off with business learning and experience, which has led to my acheivements in marketing. Additionally, I've always tried to further myself through self-teaching or further courses, such as Lynda and WSET.

  • Web Developer

    2017 - Present

    Lynda Schools

After completing courses on Codecademy and w3schools, I decided to further my knowledge through Lynda's e-learning school (from LinkedIn). I created a personalised learning path with the end goal to become a Front End Web Developer. I have currently completed over seven modules and am now confident in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and a few subsidiary languages. I also learned how to put users' experience first, create responsive designs and how to debug code.

  • BSc Business & Management

    2012 - 2015

    University of Sussex

I excelled in SME projects and venture creation tasks. For example, as a group project, we wrote a marketing plan for a cloud-based library for universities called 'paperless'. Our brand focused on user-accessibility and was environmentally conscious. I gained a high First in this module.

    Key modules included:
Advertising • Introduction to Marketing • Project Management • New Venture Creation and Business Planning • Managing Innovation • Research for Managers • Operations Management

  • Wine & Spirits Level 2

    2012

    WSET

I took a (professional) interest in wine and spirits from a young age - from creating blogs, going to wine tastings, designing pairing menus to even sketching concept wine bars. Therefore, off my own back, I decided to commit my interest into education and gained a 'Pass with Merit' certificate from th Wine & Spirit Education Trust. This passion has only driven me further and I have since contributed to designing and promoting wine and cocktail menus at multiple restaurants.
